Description

Zah - Heer

In the world of Sordehal, the Zahir are technically a race of humans but due to their vast number and distinct culture, they are defined as their own separate race. Dessert dwellers from the continent of Ora Dagor, East of the Imperium of the Thousand Isles and ringed on the East by the Sarmiran Atolls, the Zahir are the descendants of the fallen Zarhai Empire that once ruled Ora Dagor and many of the surrounding islands until approximately 5000 years ago when the Empire broke apart into the thousands of clans and family troupes that are the modern Zahir.

Many of the cities on Ora Dagor are the crumbling remains of the once great Zarhai Empire with towering minarets and massive pyramids of polished obsidian. Many Zahir travel constantly, trading as merchants across their homeland and meeting with Imperial ships in the port cities of Oa'Urzahai and N'Quesh as well as their capital of Dagor Zahir. These cities have little urban planning with people making homes in whatever nooks they can claim while the street levels house sprawling markets known across the world.

Zahir biomancers serve both a shamanistic religious role and the role of healers. While the Zahir possess no organized guild for their biomancers, they are commonly trained in a master and apprentice style relationship though many do opt to study in the Imperium.

The Zahir have no official government, any business done is handled through merchant lords, the defacto rulers of the various cities and fiefdoms who's boarders change regularly. Slavery is legal on Dagor Zahir though it is almost exclusively something one is born into or taken in as an orphan to avoid conflict with the Imperium and Sarmira, the Zahir's largest trading partners.

Today the Zahir are a common yet exotic sight across the Imperium. While many believe them to be unscrupulous traders, most are simple families looking for work, happy to share their culture and art for a meal and a warm fire.

Zahir have dark skin with black hair and yellow, orange, or golden eyes. They commonly decorate their bodies with gold jewelry and piercings as well as intricate tattoos that can depict family lineage or fealty to one's patron spirit. Zahir women wear a colored gem on their foreheads that can vary wildly in meaning across the various tribes.

Notable Zahir include Nasira Kadivar and Moana Najem.
